aw, the best part about birthdays is when you get to make a wish and blow out the candles on your microjig. maker of the grr-ripper. work safer.work smarter. i bought one of these musical greeting cards.
all the while, not playing that tune too muchthat i get flagged by youtube's content id matching system and have to pay royalties to paul mccartney. so instead, whenever you see this card open, i'll be playing a new song by my musical guru, per almered. it's called the princess meow-meowtheme. paul mccartney can only wish for the connectionsi have. well, let's see what this looks like. it's like a little sub-woofer here.
this plastic piece is just breaking that connection. i'm using 3mm plywood if you can't find it at the hardware store, check with a craft supply store. i hate getting super glue on my fingers so i wrapped them in packing tape. here' i'm making a real shallow slot. and that's what this plastic slider will fitin. this plywood is so thin, it has kind of atwist to it.
so i'm going to glue two pieces together to get it a little straighter and also it will give me some room for the hinge. i'll use wood glue for these. i want to hold this piece in with some double-sidedcarpet tape. i'm going to sandwich this plastic tab between these two pieces of iron-on edge banding. i found i need to press down a little bitright there on this plastic piece so i cut a piece ofpaper
that i'll press down on. putting all this paper on here seems to helpkeep this from sliding off its track. i think drilling a few speaker holes in thispiece might help the sound quality a little. i'm applying some iron-on edge banding to the edges of the plywood. i really like using iron-on edge banding. once you get it ironed on and sanded off,
it makes the plywood look like a solid pieceof wood. i'll line these two pieces up and attach thesetiny hinges. i'm going to apply an inkjet photo transfer to all of the surfaces. i'll lock those colors in with spray lacquer. well that turned out really cool! i like the look of this. it reminds me of an old pulp fiction novel with a tattered paperback cover.
it really has a good sound to it. if you want to actually hear that, check out my instagram feed. i've got a little video on there where youcan hear the actual beatles song. and i really want to give a shout-out anda thank you to jess, over on my patreon page who suggested i make a greeting card thisweek. it was a great suggestion.
