the first thing we would need to do is: look atwhat parts we would need to make our project. so, it says here we'll need 2x4s of partsa, b, and c. so, we're going to start by creating those.we'll start at the origin, we'll use the rectangle tool, and we'll enter in 34, 3.5and we'll hit enter. it will create our rectangle.we'll use our shift key to lock onto the red axis and we'll start another rectangle, our part b. 37, 3.5 and we'll create a third rectangle the same way.and that will be 19.5, 3.5 and now we have all of our pieces.the next thing we'll do is: we'll create their thickness. they're all going to be 1.5, so we can use
the push/pull key to bring the first one up1.5 and then the tool will remember how much we used, so we can just double click for thenext two. we're next going to create components.we'll do that by selecting what we want and hitting the g key.and we'll do that for all three. since we're going to have each of those morethan once, and also make them so they are not sticky, so they don't stick to each otherin the model, which is good. we are going to change the information inthe entity info for each. component #1 is now going to be part a tomatch our plans, and we will call it legs 2x4x34.
part b we'll call long rails 2x4x37 and that is part b. and part c is called end railsand that is 2x4x19.5. next thing we are going to do is to startbuilding the model. what we'll do is we'll use the rotate tool to spin our pieces into the right direction. we'll grab it along an edge and swivel thoseinto the right direction. so, that one will go that way, that's part a. part b. and part c.those are the ways they'll be in our model. so we'll start building at the origin there, and we'll move our pieces into place.
starting with the front and back, accordingto our plans, we want the front and back to go together like this.we'll use the copy key since we need more, it's part of the move tool, you use the controlbutton. so we'll copy one to the other side.we'll do the same for the bottom. what we'll do is move it to the bottom first, but then since we have to move it up 4, we'll move it up and we'll type 4 on the keyboardand hit enter. we'll move our part c into place and we'llcopy that all, we'll lock it into the vertical axis, and constrain it just along the linehere. so since we have it locked into the axis, whatever line we put it on is what height
it will be, so it will match the side.next we are going to want to copy both of these to the other side, but we also wantto flip them so that the outside faces are on the outside and the inside faces are onthe inside. so what we'll do is we'll copy them over andthen we'll use the scale tool to a value of -1 to reverse them. at this point we want to put on the other side. so we'll select the our side. we'll use the move tool again.and then we'll use the scale tool again, -1 and then we have that.
next we want to add our shelves. so our first shelf is going to be a rectangleagain, of a size 44, 22.5. and then we have one more, which would bethe top. and we have 48, 24. we're going to lift them both by .75. so then we'll just double click the secondone to make it the same height. we're going to rotate this into position. and we'll move it into position. and i didn't make it a group yet, we justwant to intersect it first with the model.
and we'll move the whole thing back out andwe'll see what happened to it. alright, what we have is where our intersectionsare marked, so we'll use the push pull to drop each of those out. we'll create this as a component. we'll change it's entity info to be e, we'llcall that shelf, we'll also call it mdf, and the size is 44x22.5. and we'll slide it into position. this we'll create as a component as well. and we'll call it d, top mdf 48x24.
and we'll place it on top at the corner.the top isn't in place yet. so all we'll need to do is grab it by it'smidpoint, we'll move it along the green axis, and we'll move it to a point constrained tothe midpoint of the piece below. and along back side or the front side, either,we can do the same thing. find it's midpoint, use the move tool alongthe red axis now to the midpoint of the pice below. now we're almost done. we need a second top, so we'll use the move / copy tool to bring a second top piece up. and now if we looked at our outliner, we wouldsee every piece that we have to build this.
