wood crafts for gifts

- hey, martha. - you're a bunchof little school girls. - yeah, we really are. we're up to no good. we're up to mischief and--are you putting glasses on? - i'm putting glasses on.i can't see anything anymore. - no, you better wear glasses, 'cause we're gonna useelectric drills. - i'm putting these on.

because you have a lot of ideasin your holiday issue, your magazine-- - so many. - so many ideas, and you'regonna help us with some today. - and on the website too. you can go--you can actuallylearn how to make these today. - trees?- yes. you'll plant them first. - these--these are little--

we're gonna make thoselittle reindeer. - are you cleaningyour glasses-- - i just have something--i just wanted-- - you're using my sweaterto clean your glasses? - no, my protective goggles. - i just will saythat i'm very scared. i'll just say that right now. - oh, okay, well, i would thinkyou'd know how to do everything at the farm.

- she doesn't knowhow to do anything. what are you talking about? - oh, i just thought she-- - no, you're right.i know how to do everything. - yeah, i thought you knewhow to do everything. so this is a drill, okay?a cordless drill. okay, now press this littlething, and it goes like that. - yeah, it's so much fun. - and now the whole ideais not to get it on your hand--

this other hand. so you have to hold thissecurely. - oh, my god, this is a terrible mistake. - yeah. - i actually pre-drilled. you can just drill thema little bit more. - thanks.- just to get-- - you know, i have a boneto pick with you, because you have this thing--- oops.

- okay.- look at that. - nothing's working. - that's not good. - no.- i need a pre-drill. - martha, i just haveto tell you something. you knowyour thanksgiving special where you went intothe cranberry bog and stuff? - oh, yes.oh, it's such a fun space. have you ever done that?

- [laughs]sure, yeah. um, i watched that special, and it ruined my thanksgiving 'cause it was so--you were so brilliant. everything you didwas so perfect. it looked so gorgeous that, after my mom and i watched it, we said, "you know what?" - look at this. she's doing it.she's doing it. - okay, never mind.

- i'm trying to learn--- anyway. [laughter] - you know what? you know, everybody can do everything if you just think about it. - look, she fixedher own drill just now. it broke, and you fixed it.- i did. - martha?- oh, jesus. - so then these holesare for your leg.

oh.- um... - i got a problem. i got a problem. - turn on the drill,and--yeah, see? - wait. - all right, well,it happened to her too. - same thing. turnyour drill on, but hold that. and then turn--- ooh. - they told me you knewhow to do all this stuff.

- we know how to do nothing. [drill whirring] - no, this is serious. i worry about you. - first of all, meal plan, martha. can you make me a meal planfor christmas? because i don't have one. - well, how about fettuccinewith mushrooms? - how about that?

- how about goingto a cranberry bog and picking some cranberries? - they've already been picked. don't do that at christmastime'cause they're already picked. - all right.- see, look, yours looks good. okay, yours looks good.- all right. - and you can use--- look at mine, martha. - you can use twigs for antlers. you can use twigs.or you can use--

- martha--martha, look at mine. i have a three-legged reindeer. - is something wrong with this?- yes, i think so. - yeah, i think if youturn the head this way. - that's more like a satellite.- oh. that'll do it. - yeah, that'll help. - can we move over?- there. - all right, let's move to something else.

- so not so hard, and if youwant to make them more secure, you just have to usea little hot glue, okay? and put it down in the holeso it holds it better. and then you can makea little tableau. look, julia, this is foryour christmas table. you don't have to serve anythingif you have this on your table. - is that for me? - yes, you can takethis whole thing home. - and it hasthese little lights,

and all--and then puta little bit of snow. and you know what the snow is?- salt. - bath salts.- epsom salts. - epsom salts. - yeah, so it's--you know, you can take a bath-- - takes the puffiness out of-- - you can take that in the bathwith you. take the whole thingin your bath. - that's right.

it floats in your bath. all right.- look how pretty. - yes, we keep moving on. what are we making next? - okay, can you? - let's get tothe most dangerous saw of all. - all right, oh, yes. now, who's usedone of these radial arm saws? - you have.you said you did everything.

- i haven't done--- these are not so hard. - [gasps]don't turn it on, martha. [screams] [saw whirring] - and even thoughwe had to do this-- i still can't get a husband, julia. - you can't?- i can't get a husband. i know how to useradial arm saws and everything. - well, i don't knowwhat to tell you.

i can't help you. i'm still trying to figure out how to get intothat cranberry bog, so... - okay. - but this is a very handytool to have. if you--everybodyshould have one at home. - okay.- we might as well try it. - you don't have oneat your farm? - no, i don't havethe farm anymore.

- don't turn it on again.- okay, there. hold it there.now you hold-- your hand stays here.- way back here. - this is when jokes go bad. - all right, and then you squeeze it. - [screams]oh, god. that is really a scary thing. - i wouldn't--i would not ever-- - and she looksvery professional.

[cheers and applause] excellent.excellent. and so this is what-- julia, this is the object.look. - oh, look at that. - we're making the wreath...- out of wood. - yeah, out of little--- a wood wreath. - these are like the trunksof the trees that you've-- - very cute.- you haven't used.

and you just glueeverything on-- - that you've grownfrom seedlings. - yes, of course.- yes. all right--- and you just use the hot glue. and they go onright like that. and you just keep goingaround the entire-- - that's adorable.that's fantastic. - i can think ofat least 100 uses for this. - i--okay, well, maybe some of them

you should keepto yourself, but yeah. - 'cause that's a lot. martha, you brought somethingfor everybody. didn't you?- i did. and because i've beenso inspired by your 12 days of christmas-- it's just such a great idea-- the home depot, where all these fabulous tools and ornaments and all these--oh, the tree, this tree.
