a few years ago, i bought a $60 or $70 benchvise and mounted it to the side of the workstation. and i have to be honest, it was just shy ofuseless, i never used it, it didn't fit my needs. so when i replaced the table top, i just decided i wasn't going to put it back on.but then i got to thinking, well, what if i could build a bench vise that did fit myneeds. so first things first, i got a one inch doweli picked up at the home improvement store. lets go ahead and get that cut down. i have chamfered the edges of the dowels a pocket knife in order to make them easierto start with the die. i really wish i had a bench vise right now.
i picked up some oak boards and glued them together. now i'll just cut these in half for the front and rear jaws. oh wait, i need some handles. did you know screws made from wood were used extensively in the early modern period? in fact, according to british history online, wooden screws were often used in heavy machinery. like the screw press.it turns out, working with wood was a lot easier than working with iron at the time.well, as always with these videos there is always an accompany blog post and i alwaysgo into more detail their. you can visit me at simply easy diy dot com.until then, i'll see ya later.
