for mere mortals microjig. maker of the grr-ripper. work safer.work smarter. i want to thank peter lindstrom in swedenfor this great springtime project idea. his hose hanger is a little different. i'vemodified mine to hold a fifty foot hose. you can find free plans down in the description. this might be a good opportunity for you totry out some router techniques that may be new to you. i'm squaring up these 2x4s by shaving alittle off each side. and that will give me a straighter, flattersurface to glue these together.

to make the circle-cutting jig for my router,i need to replace the base with this half-inch plywood. and i'll trace out these mounting holes. and these need to be countersunk. here's my panel all glued up and sandedsmooth. i'll mark the center point. it looks like i can make the radius of myouter circle about 8". the router bit will drop into the center ofthis hole and cut right along that edge. i can mark it right there.

i'm going to drill a quarter-inch hole atthat point. and i'll drill a quarter-inch hole all theway through the workpiece, trying to keep it as straight as possible. i'll use a quarter-inch dowel as a pivot. the next circle is going to be the dado, andthat's going to have an 8" diameter so i'll mark a 4" radius. i'm going to hold the workpiece into placewith a few screws in the corners. and i'll install my new baseplate. and install a straight bit into my router.

i'm going to start by routing out this innercircle, so i'll stick a dowel in this hole. i'll continue to make a series of shallowcuts, lowering the router bit with each pass. i want to get this to about half the depthof the board. now i can move this pin over to the otherhole to cut out the outer circle. i'm not going to cut all the way throughthis. i want to leave a flat side to make it easier to cut in half. i'll cut out the remainder of this outercircle close to the actual edge, but not all the way. to smooth out this round surface i'm goingto use a flush-trim bit on my router table.

this bearing will ride along this curved surfacei cut earlier and even up this part i cut on the bandsaw. i'm cutting this 1x4 into 5 â½" long pieces. you want to make sure these fit really tightlyinto these dados. but before i put these in, i'm going toround over these edges. and with those pieces sanded down i can now glue it all together. i'm going to be pretty generous with theglue: i don't want these coming apart. this part might get a little tricky. well, that was tricky!

and i've already got a place planned forthis hose which is desperately needed right around back of my shop, where right now myhose is all over the ground. so, it's going to go right over here. and just when you were thinking it couldn'tpossibly get any better than this, i went out and treated myself to a brand new50' hose. i'm kinda thinking this may very well bethe best day of my life! and once again, i'd like to thank peterlinsdtrom for his great springtime project idea. and i'd like to thank all of you for watchingwoodworking for mere mortals.
